Can be shifted under full line pressure
Selector valves are designed with a hydraulically balanced spool that allows them to be shifted under fill line pressure
System pressure is bled off to a low pressure leg before reaching the seal, resulting in a reduced effort required to shift the spool
The seal is therefore operated in an unloaded condition
